What is a great ride?

Sunday May 16th, 2010 @ 12:53 PM

Hi,
A great ride is ofcourse individual. Just like foods, some likes it hot some not, and our needs change during life as we some times needs to get the adrenalin rush and some times we just need to get the motorcycle rolling under well-known conditions.  Many bikers go for a long exotic ride, at least once in a life time.  The destination be crossing Saharah, USA or down under in Australia.

It could be great to hear from you what you have tried, and just to give some inspiration to where you get all the challanges you need, I found a few pictures.

Lena Highway in Russia
The highway is 1 200 km long, and this is from Amut to Yakutsk. During winter and the dry season, there are no problems. As it is not paved, the rain really mess things up. I do not think it is due to the hot weather the people wear shorts..

Norway
It does not get that wild in Norway. Knowing a bit to the Norwegian culture, they have it all under control, but never the less, they still have some great motorcycle roads. When I drove there it was back in 1992 on my Honda 400F with my wife on the rear seat on our way to North Cape.

Sweden
The above is great, but really, what is it that makes you remember it as a nice ride? Personally it is about having a good time.  Going with the wife, see some new stuff, have sufficient time to relax and just enjoy the motorcycle. This is from our summer holiday last year in Sweden.

    Hi,

I see you are enjoying your motorcycle trip in Sweden. My wife and I keep thinking about taking the time and rent a bike in Europe and just enjoy the scenery. I live in South Florida and the summer is just too hot to ride. I still ride but not as much as I would like. Yesterday, the temperatures were about 96F and after a while you are practically sweating. After 30 miles of riding, I decided to head back home.

We are planning a family riding trip on the Blue Ridge Mountains between the state of Tennessee and Virginia for 2014. A bunch of family members are coming up from Colombia and we will be renting the BRP Spyder RS for each couple. It is going to be fun.

    Regards and ride safely,

    Jose

  2. Hey Jan,

I forgot to mention that if you plan on coming down to Florida someday, give me a call. We can take a trip down to the Florida Keys. This is a gorgeous ride and it is best done in October. It is a good 5 hours all the way to Key West. That includes several stops to rest and enjoy the view.

    Regards,

    Jose A.

    Hi Jose,
Thanks for the invitation – will for sure give you a call when in Florida. I have heard much about Florida, and the keys.
I can only recommend to rent a bike and take a Europe tours, as we for sure have a lot to offer motorcyclists in every field of ride type. What to suggest? That is not easy, but spend some weeks here and is easy gone, and you still have not seen it all. I have been on some nice tours to e.g. Sweden, Norway (North Cape), France, Germany and Italy. All countries have their own pro and con.
Want to go to Denmark – just let me know, and I will fire up the VFR and we go for a ride

  4. Hi Jan,
About your tours in Sweden, where have you been there? I’d like to publish some tips and reports and stories on http://Treffpunkt-Schweden.com in the section “Activities in Sweden”. I miss a “Biking in Sweden” page there. If you have a nice report which you wouldn’t mind me translating to German and publishing there, and some pics, I’d appreciate that.

    Regards,
    Martin
